Even if the items are used. Giving and getting used items for free in your own area or neighborhood is the big idea behind
Freecycle.org. Just sign up, put your name on a list as well as the object you desire and wait for someone to contack you and give you the item. Once you connect with someone who is offering something, you just arrange for the drop-off or pick-up. And you can reciprocate the generosity by giving something else to someone else. Sure beats tossing that working, if a bit rusty, bike in the trash, doesn't it?
